Chronic Stress

So, I have had some bookings recently where clients say ‘everything hurts, from shoulders to mid back to hips and pain down their legs’. They are in so much pain and discomfort that they hope an hour’s treatment whether its massage or reflexology can make the pain go away and making their symptoms miraculously disappear.

It can take someone a long time to make a booking, usually after the drugs have just masked the pain and not solved the issue. The result, the body is now compensating for the muscle imbalance, therefore causing more structural imbalances within the body frame.

Very rarely does one treatment correct the underlying issue.

The next part of the consultation, ‘when was the last time you had a massage or another treatment’? 90% of the time the answer is they can’t remember or, because they don’t have the time. But, if someone walked past you and said here’s £30.00 - go and sit still for an hour - that 90% would jump on that wagon!!!

My next point is exercise.

Some people love it. Some people don’t love it but do it because of the benefits and then there are others that just come out in a rash at the mere thought of exercise.

For me, it gets me out of my bed at 6.30 am. My body now prefers the gentle kind of workout (mainly due to shoulder issues), but let’s not make light of this I still have a mild ache afterwards.

On the upside, I’m now driving home at 8 am. in the opposite flow of traffic, feeling slightly smug as I now have a boxed “ticked” for the day.

For someone else it could be just going out for a walk on a summer evening, with a group of friends catching up with the gossip.

The benefits of doing either is the release of endorphins from the brain into your system, a reduction in blood pressure and improved sense of wellbeing and achievement.

Two things I think are important (and this is only my opinion), book regular treatments of choice and learn to separate the issues that cause the increase in the stress levels within you.

Learn to clear your mind through maybe yoga or meditation.

Doing these things regularly can improve your overall self and if nothing else … the thing that often eludes us in times of stress - is sleep, better longer and and deeper.
